The workshop will take place over three days from the 27th to the 29th around the Seoul Arts Center. It is composed of a program covering everything for conductor growth, from musical interpretation to personal marketing.
Last year, the National Symphony held the ‘KSO International Conducting Competition’ and established a workshop program this year to help Korean conductors make a global leap. The development of conductors is seen as a catalyst to diversify Korea’s soloist-centered music ecosystem and sustain interest in K-Classic.
In particular, business courses for Korean conductors’ global advancement have been introduced. The National Symphony explained that since large-scale orchestras are necessary for practice training, it is not easy to nurture conductors without organized support.
A total of 30 people applied for this participant recruitment. Four conductors personally selected by Davit Ryailyant, the current artistic director of the National Symphony, were chosen: Kim Jisoo (32), Park Haewon (38), An Yeoryeong (30), and Hwang Yeongmuk (31).
They will receive musical interpretation and technique training from Ryailyant, and artist consulting support such as personal marketing from Rachel Boron, who managed world-renowned conductors Marin Alsop and Daniel Harding, who conducted at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
In the podium sessions, four conducting master classes and two video feedback sessions will be held focusing on works by Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, and Stravinsky. Through video feedback, participants will have the opportunity to objectively review their conducting. Artist consulting will be conducted mainly through group seminars and one-on-one customized consulting for each conductor.

Choi Jeongsook, CEO of the National Symphony, said, “For the comprehensive development of the Korean music scene, support needs to be diversified from soloist-centered assistance to various fields. In particular, conductor development is the starting point to enrich Korea’s orchestral stage, and this workshop focuses on raising the voice of Korean conductors in the global music market, moving beyond master classes that have so far emphasized musical aspects.”
