Government-WHO Co-hosted 'World Bio Summit'... Held on 25-26
[Asia Economy Reporter Byeon Seon-jin] The 1st "2022 World Bio Summit," co-hosted by the Korean government and the World Health Organization (WHO), will be held over two days from the 25th to the 26th at the Grand Walkerhill Hotel in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. Under the theme of "The Future of Vaccines and Bio Health," more than 300 participants including health officials from various countries, key figures from international organizations, and representatives of global companies will gather to share the COVID-19 pandemic situation and discuss cooperation plans in the bio sector such as vaccines.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the 19th, the event on the 25th will begin with opening remarks from the Korean government and WHO, followed by congratulatory speeches from Masatsugu Asakawa, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Ban Ki-moon, former UN Secretary-General (Chairman of the Ban Ki-moon Foundation for a Better Future), and others. Keynote speeches are scheduled by Richard Hatchett, CEO of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), and Jerome Kim, Director-General of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI).
Next, representatives of global bio companies will share their experiences with COVID-19 and growth plans for the vaccine and bio industries under the theme "Future Strategies for the Post-Pandemic Era." The corporate representatives session, held from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, will include participation from Pfizer, Moderna, SK Bioscience, MSD, Shionogi, Ildong Pharmaceutical, Merck, Afrigen, and BioNTech.
On the 26th, health ministers from Korea, El Salvador, Nigeria, Thailand, the United States, Germany, and other countries will deliver on-site or video congratulatory speeches, followed by the adoption of the "Seoul Declaration." The Seoul Declaration will include content on strengthening capabilities and commitments to prepare for future pandemics based on innovation in the vaccine and bio sectors and multilateral international cooperation.
