Chungnam, Traditional Markets, and Others: Deficiencies Found in Safety Inspections at 462 Locations
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province is conducting safety inspections of public facilities such as traditional markets within the province and is taking measures to address deficiencies found during the inspection process.
On the 19th, the province announced that it had carried out the "2022 Chungnam Safety Transformation Intensive Safety Inspection" targeting 1,860 facilities within the province over 59 days starting from August 17.
About 17,540 people participated in the safety inspections, including provincial and city/county officials, safety experts, related public corporations and industrial complexes, and facility managers.
The main inspection targets were ▲347 sites in the architectural facilities sector such as apartment complexes, traditional markets, and fire-vulnerable facilities ▲548 sites in the lifestyle and leisure sector such as performance halls and sports facilities ▲116 sites in the environment and energy sector such as water supply and sewage systems ▲225 sites in the transportation facilities sector such as roads, bridges, and port facilities ▲44 sites in the industrial and construction site sector ▲149 sites in the health and welfare sector such as medical institutions, accommodations, and bathhouses ▲431 sites in other categories such as small public facilities and landslide-prone areas.
During the inspection process, the province found deficiencies at 462 sites including traditional markets, bridges, and fire-vulnerable facilities, and corrected 194 of these on-site.
Additionally, repairs and reinforcements will be carried out at 255 sites, and detailed safety diagnoses will be conducted at 13 sites. The total budget required for repairs, reinforcements, and detailed safety diagnoses is 17.4 billion KRW, of which the province secured 9.6 billion KRW this year to implement related measures. The additional required budget of 7.8 billion KRW will be secured through this year's supplementary budget and next year's main budget.
The province also issued administrative sanctions such as compliance orders for 28 sites with poor facility management, including malfunctioning gas detectors, faulty emergency exit lights, and missing fire alarms.

Meanwhile, the province plans to disclose the safety inspection results of a total of 1,850 sites, excluding legally non-disclosable facilities, through the Safety Information Integrated Disclosure System operated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety at a later date.
