Jeonnam Province Conducts Nationwide Joint Crackdown on Illegal Fishing in Autumn
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 18th that it will conduct a nationwide joint crackdown on illegal fishing in cooperation with related organizations to protect fishery products during the autumn growth season and establish fishing order.
The joint crackdown, which will be conducted throughout this month, involves related organizations such as the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Jeonnam Province, city and county governments, and the Fisheries Cooperative. Sixteen fishing guidance vessels from the province and city/county governments and 42 fisheries supervision officials have been deployed.
The main targets of the crackdown are illegal fishing activities that disrupt fishing order, such as unauthorized and unregistered vessels conducting illegal fishing, installation of unlicensed seaweed farming facilities, and violations of prohibited periods and areas for fishing gear use. Fishing guidance vessels have been concentrated in areas with a high incidence of illegal fishing.
Those caught engaging in illegal fishing activities will face judicial measures according to fisheries-related laws, and strong administrative actions such as cancellation of fishing permits and suspension of fishing operations on vessels will be imposed.
In addition, to promote compliance among fishermen and prevent illegal fishing in advance, guidance and publicity for the prevention of illegal fishing will be conducted simultaneously at major ports, harbors, and fish markets within the jurisdiction.
