According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, cold air descended from the northwest on this day, leading to a cold wave advisory issued for some inland central regions, the northern east coast of Gangwon, inland Jeonbuk, and inland Gyeongsang. Morning temperatures are expected to be around 5 degrees Celsius nationwide until the 20th, with some inland areas near 0 degrees Celsius.
As of 8 a.m., the lowest morning temperatures at major locations were Seoul 5.6°C, Suwon 7.6°C, Incheon 7.4°C, Gangneung 8.9°C, Chuncheon 2.6°C, Daejeon 6.8°C, Jeonju 7.4°C, Gwangju 9.7°C, Yeosu 7.8°C, Daegu 9.1°C, Busan 9.6°C, and Jeju 13.4°C.
In Seoul and some other areas, the ground surface cooled overnight, resulting in the first frost or ice observation. The date of the first frost in Seoul this year is 10 days earlier than the average and the same as last year. In Andong, it was one day later than last year but six days earlier than the average. In Bukchuncheon, the first ice and frost were observed, both one day later than last year.
Until the 19th, daytime temperatures will be around 15 degrees Celsius in most regions, lower than the average (19~23°C). The highest daytime temperature on the 18th is forecasted to be between 13 and 19 degrees Celsius. The daily temperature range exceeds 15 degrees Celsius, so caution is advised for health management during the changing seasons.
Until the 20th, frost may form and ice may freeze overnight mainly in inland areas. The morning low temperature on the 19th is expected to be between -1 and 9 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs of 15 to 20 degrees Celsius. On the 20th, morning lows will range from 1 to 11 degrees Celsius, and daytime highs from 18 to 22 degrees Celsius.
