BTS, Eldest Jin to Enlist in Military...Sudden Withdrawal of Postponement at the End of This Month (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Myunghwan Lee] The group BTS announced their intention to enlist in the military in order, starting with the eldest member Jin.
BIGHIT MUSIC, BTS's agency, stated on the 17th, "Jin will apply to cancel his enlistment postponement at the end of this month and will follow the Military Manpower Administration's enlistment procedures thereafter," adding, "Other members will also fulfill their military service sequentially according to their own plans."
Born in 1992 and aged 30, Jin has had his enlistment postponed until the end of this year based on the revised Military Service Act of 2020, which allows postponement upon recommendation by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. With BTS withdrawing their own policy of postponing enlistment until age 30, Jin is expected to enlist as an active-duty soldier as soon as his enlistment notice is issued. Depending on the timing of the notice, he could enlist as early as within this year.
At their solo concert "Yet To Come in BUSAN" held two days earlier on the 15th at the Busan Asiad Main Stadium, BTS mentioned it would be their last concert (currently scheduled). In June, they released the anthology album "Proof," covering nine years of BTS's history, and announced plans to focus more on solo music journeys rather than group activities.
With BTS expected to enlist one by one starting with Jin, group activities will take a break for the time being. However, Jin is preparing for his official solo debut with a single, following member J-Hope, so his enlistment is expected to occur after the release of this new song.
BIGHIT MUSIC explained, "We have been working with the artists to finalize their military service plans. We carefully considered the timing to announce this decision and judged that now, after the conclusion of the Busan concert supporting the bid for the 2030 World Expo in Busan, is the most appropriate time to inform you."
They added, "Both the agency and the members hope to resume full-group BTS activities around 2025. However, we ask for your understanding as it is difficult to specify an exact time at this point."
