[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Jeju Air is further solidifying its position as the strongest player in the Japan route market by resuming flights on the Sapporo and Nagoya routes, which were suspended after COVID-19, and proactively increasing flights on the Tokyo (Narita), Osaka, and Fukuoka routes.
Jeju Air announced on the 17th that starting from the 30th, it will resume the Gimpo-Osaka and Incheon-Sapporo routes with a schedule of 14 flights per week (2 flights per day). The Incheon-Nagoya route will resume from November 22, and the Incheon-Okinawa route will restart from December 1 with a weekly schedule of 7 flights.
Currently operating 14 flights per week (2 flights per day) on the Incheon-Tokyo (Narita) route, Jeju Air will increase this to 21 flights per week (3 flights per day) from October 27, 27 flights per week (3 to 4 flights per day) from November 22, and 34 flights per week (4 to 5 flights per day) from December 22. The Incheon-Osaka route will also increase from the current 14 flights per week (2 flights per day) to 21 flights per week (3 flights per day) starting the 27th. The Incheon-Fukuoka route, currently operating 14 flights per week (2 flights per day), will increase to 21 flights per week (3 flights per day) from October 30 and 28 flights per week (4 flights per day) from November 22.
Busan-originating Japan routes will also see an increase, with flights on the Busan-Tokyo (Narita), Osaka, and Fukuoka routes rising from 7 flights per week to 14 flights per week (2 flights per day) starting October 30.
As of now, Jeju Air operates 63 flights per week (9 flights per day) on Japan routes departing from Incheon International Airport and Gimhae International Airport, including 14 weekly flights (2 per day) on the Incheon-Tokyo (Narita) route and 7 weekly flights on the Busan-Osaka route. This accounts for 28% of the total 225 flights operated by Korean carriers, marking the highest number of flights. In December, Jeju Air plans to nearly triple its Japan route flights to 167 per week compared to October 17, further strengthening its status as the top carrier on Japan routes.
