Park Seong-ha, CEO of SK C&C, Apologizes for Data Center Fire...Committed to Full Damage Recovery
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Choi] Following the fire at SK(주) C&C's Pangyo Data Center that disrupted major Kakao services and some Naver services, Park Seong-ha, CEO of SK(주) C&C, issued an apology.
On the 15th, CEO Park stated, "I sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience experienced by many citizens due to the fire at the Pangyo Data Center."
He explained that they have been making every effort to minimize the damage through a swift response immediately after the fire occurred and are fully committed to recovery under all possible safety measures.
CEO Park emphasized, "We will strive to restore the data center to normal operation as soon as possible to resolve the inconvenience," and added, "We will focus all our capabilities to prevent similar incidents from recurring in the future."
The Kakao service disruption began around 3:30 PM on the same day when a fire broke out at the SK C&C Pangyo Data Center where Kakao is housed. Due to the fire, power supply to the area containing Kakao's equipment was cut off, causing service outages.
Although the fire has been extinguished by the fire authorities, power supply to the data center cannot be immediately restored for safety reasons, delaying the resolution of the outage.
