'Gyeongbuk Bio Life Expo' Kicks Off... "Fostering Future New Growth Engines"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] The ‘2022 Gyeongbuk Bio·Life Expo’ organized by Gyeongbuk Province and Andong City opened on the 14th at the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government Office in Andong City, Gyeongbuk. This event, held for the first time this year, will take place over three days until the 16th at the Dongnak Hall and Saemaeul Square of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government Office.
The Gyeongbuk Bio Life Expo features exhibitions showcasing the present and future of the bio industry, a bio future forum, and conferences.
It seeks strategies to revitalize the bio industry and provides a platform for joint development among industry, academia, research, and government to foster the regional bio industry.
The event includes a bio company expo, bio future forum, vaccine industry forum, conferences, new product presentations, business consultations, and side events.
During the three-day expo, 80 booths will be operated, including corporate and theme pavilions, metaverse, and beauty experience zones, with participation from global bio industry experts, stakeholders, and related companies. Notably, the SK Bioscience theme pavilion will operate a recruitment consultation booth targeting students dreaming of a future in the bio industry.
The expo opening ceremony on the 14th proceeded in the order of the Global Bio Campus agreement ceremony, welcome and congratulatory speeches by Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, Kwon Ki-chang, Mayor of Andong, and Ahn Jae-yong, CEO of SK Bioscience, followed by a keynote speech, opening performance, and a performance.
In the Global Bio Campus agreement, five institutions?Gyeongsangbuk-do, Andong City, Kyungpook National University, POSTECH, and Andong National University?agreed to mutually cooperate.
Through fostering bio and vaccine specialists and establishing an innovation cluster, they aim to create a bio and vaccine industry ecosystem in Andong City and jointly attract the ‘Global Bio Campus’ project, which the Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to promote in the future.
Following this, in the keynote speeches, Kim Han-yi, CEO of Light Fund, Kim Deok-ho, professor at Johns Hopkins University, and Lee Jung-gyu, CEO of Bridge Biotherapeutics, delivered lectures on strategies to revitalize the Gyeongbuk bio industry.
The international vaccine industry forum held after the opening ceremony focused on ‘The Future of Vaccines for the Prevention of New and Variant Infectious Diseases.’ Speakers including Sung Baek-rin, head of the Vaccine Commercialization Technology Development Project Group, discussed three sessions: ‘Future Infectious Disease Response Vaccine Commercialization Technology Trends,’ ‘Global Vaccine Industrialization Policy Prospects,’ and ‘Challenges and Roles of Companies in the Global Vaccine Market,’ through speeches and discussions.
Through this forum, Andong City plans to promote the local vaccine industry, lay the foundation for the bio and vaccine industry, and accelerate the promotion of the vaccine industry cluster.
The conference featured about 36 domestic and international experts as speakers, engaging in lively discussions on various topics including pharmaceuticals, medical and healthcare, and beauty sectors.
In the pharmaceutical field, discussions were held under the theme ‘Strategies for Discovering Pharmaceutical Materials Based on Gyeongbuk Natural Resources.’ In the medical and healthcare field, the theme was ‘The Future of Gyeongbuk Healthcare Industry,’ and in the beauty field, the theme was ‘Innovative Strategies for Fostering the Gyeongbuk-style K-Beauty Industry.’
As side events, a new product presentation showcasing products and technologies of bio companies with excellent technological capabilities and a business consultation meeting providing financial services to over 180 global companies were also prepared.
