[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] KT announced on the 13th that it held the ‘AI One Team Open Innovation’ event to promote coexistence and cooperation with the artificial intelligence (AI) startup ecosystem.

The AI One Team Open Innovation event is part of the AI One Team’s efforts to build an open AI ecosystem, which is one of its activity goals. The AI One Team, consisting of 12 industry-academia-research institutions including LG Electronics and startups, is working to create an environment where digital transformation (DX) projects using AI can be jointly solved and promoted. It plays roles such as discovering business cooperation opportunities for promising startups, supporting investment attraction, and marketing assistance.

Companies participating in the AI One Team, including KT, invited applications from startups interested in collaboration. Through document screening and online meetup evaluations by the participating companies, the AI One Team selected 10 innovative AI startups. These 10 selected startups operated exhibition booths at the Superstar Day event and had networking and cooperation opportunities with stakeholders such as companies, venture capitalists (VCs), and accelerators attending the event.

KT selected 6 startups out of the 10 to hold an IR pitching session aimed at discovering investment opportunities and exploring business cooperation. The selected startups introduced their innovative technologies and capabilities and proposed AI One Team collaboration ideas. Among them, the outstanding startups DeepBrain AI, Orwell Health, and Plai received 10 million KRW in commercialization support funds from the AI One Team. The AI One Team plans to strengthen networking and consider business cooperation and investment by utilizing AI One Team programs such as mini-forums and tech seminars with these companies.

Choi Jun-gi, Executive Director of KT’s AI/Big Data Business Division, said, “KT is cooperating with AI One Team participating institutions in various ways, including the AI One Team Open Innovation, to create an open AI ecosystem,” and added, “We will continue to discover innovative technologies from startups and establish a growth foundation within the AI One Team to contribute to creating AI innovation in the Republic of Korea.”
