Gwangju Seo-gu Council Members Visit Site of Planned Public Dementia Care Facility Construction Project
Assembly Members Omiseop, Kim Hyungmi, Ahn Hyeongju, and Kim Gyunho
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Oh Mi-seop, Kim Hyung-mi, Ahn Hyung-joo, and Kim Kyun-ho, members of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, recently conducted a site visit to the planned location for the construction project of a public dementia-specialized complex nursing facility.
The dementia nursing facility, a flagship project of the National Dementia Responsibility System, is a dementia-specialized elderly welfare facility that can reduce the caregiving burden on families by providing systematic care for elderly dementia patients through securing public interest and stable operation of professional personnel.
On the day, Seo-gu council members listened to the project overview and progress status from the responsible department staff and requested explanations regarding the reason for purchasing land known as ‘maengji’ (land where building permits are impossible) and plans to secure access roads.
They also inquired whether it is practically possible to construct the dementia nursing facility by securing road land through purchasing abandoned riverbed land owned by the Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office.
Council member Oh Mi-seop, who planned the site visit, said, “Due to complacent administration that purchased land where building permits are impossible, the dementia nursing facility construction project, which had been promoted for four years since 2018, suddenly faces the risk of collapse, but unfortunately, no one is taking responsibility. I earnestly request that the Seo-gu Office make active efforts to build elderly welfare facility infrastructure through the construction of the dementia nursing facility so that all Seo-gu residents can be guaranteed a dignified old age.”
