The Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 12 (Presiding Judge Na Sang-hoon) announced on the 12th that it sentenced Mr. A (40), who was indicted on charges including rape, injury, and violation of the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes, to four years in prison. He was also ordered to complete 40 hours each of sexual violence and stalking treatment programs, and was banned from employment at facilities related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities for five years.
Mr. A is accused of visiting the beauty salon operated by his girlfriend, Ms. B (41), on April 10, striking her on the cheek and causing injuries severe enough to fracture her ribs while demanding that she confess to having had sexual relations with her ex-boyfriend. On or around April 12, he allegedly returned to the salon and forcibly raped her.
Two days later, Mr. A again went to the beauty salon and caused a disturbance. Ms. B fled to a friend's house, but he stalked her by attempting 52 voice calls to her turned-off phone and sending 42 messages.
On the same day, Mr. A went to Ms. B’s mother’s house, placed a box of drinks at the door, and waited while watching the parking lot for Mr. A’s car, causing feelings of anxiety and fear.

The court stated, “Although there is no prior criminal record and the defendant acknowledges his wrongdoing and shows remorse, the repeated violent acts, threats to harm the family, and stalking that caused anxiety and fear are typical of dating violence crimes. There is a possibility that the violence could escalate, so severe punishment is necessary,” explaining the sentencing rationale.
