LG Electronics announced on the 9th that it is accelerating its entry into overseas markets by supplying LG CLOi Guidebots to Aeon Mall, Japan's largest shopping mall.
LG Electronics recently supplied two LG CLOi Guidebots to Aeon Mall Toki in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Following last month's supply to Aeon Mall Narita, the company is expanding the supply of CLOi robots optimized for contactless services not only domestically but also overseas by providing guide robots to large shopping malls.
Japan is a leading industrial robot powerhouse alongside the United States and Germany. With the recent increase in demand for contactless services, the service robot market is rapidly growing, and various robot products from local robot companies as well as countries like China are competing. LG Electronics evaluated that "supplying CLOi robots consecutively to Japan's largest shopping mall is highly meaningful as it recognizes LG's differentiated robot competitiveness."
In May, LG Electronics officially entered the overseas service robot market by supplying CLOi Servebots to Japanese restaurant franchises, American restaurants, and supermarkets. Recently, it has been expanding its robot business overseas, including starting a pilot operation of the CLOi UV-C Bot, a contactless disinfection robot, at a hospital in Karatsu City, Japan.
The LG CLOi Guidebot boasts various functions and safety features. Equipped with 27-inch touch displays on the front and rear, it serves as a customized advertising board replacing general signage billboards. Based on AI-powered autonomous driving and obstacle avoidance, it moves throughout the shopping mall providing customers with necessary information. Even when encountering escalators or obstacles in crowded stores, it changes its route through sensors attached to the top and bottom of the product.
Based on natural language processing (NLP) technology that converts human speech for robot understanding, it supports multilingual guidance in Japanese, English, Chinese, and more. For customers who want to take commemorative photos, the robot takes pictures and sends them via text message.
Robot management is also convenient. Operators can remotely monitor the robot's status in real-time through an integrated control system and easily update the installed content and operation schedules.
Starting with this guide robot supply, LG Electronics plans to expand supply to other locations and promote linkage with various CLOi robots such as delivery robots.
Since beginning a pilot operation of guide robots at Incheon Airport in 2017, LG Electronics currently operates a total of seven types of CLOi robot lineups, providing robot solutions optimized for various spaces.
