According to the Hangul Culture Solidarity, Ulsan City has made the greatest effort to use Korean words instead of foreign terms and Hangul instead of foreign characters in the ‘press releases’ prepared by 17 metropolitan local governments nationwide, and has maintained these achievements.
In particular, it was recognized for its contribution as an institution that has always been a model in loving Korean language and Hangul among the 17 metropolitan local governments, such as hosting the Hangul cultural festival ‘Oesol Hangul Hanmadang’ to commemorate the achievements of Oesol Choi Hyun-bae, an independence activist and linguist.
Besides Ulsan City, the ‘2022 Woorimal Sarangkkun’ includes the Ministry of SMEs and Startups in the institution category, and Park Eun-joo, a civil servant of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Hong Sung-jin, an official of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, in the individual category.
The Hangul Culture Solidarity selects and announces the ‘Woorimal Sarangkkun’ every year to commemorate Hangul Day.
