Yoon and Kishida Share Recognition on the Importance of ROK-US-Japan Security Cooperation and Strong International Solidarity
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President Yoon Suk-yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held a phone call on the 6th and agreed that South Korea and Japan will cooperate to respond firmly to North Korea's ballistic missile launch.
President Yoon had a 25-minute phone call with Prime Minister Kishida from 5:35 PM to 6:00 PM regarding the recent North Korean ballistic missile launch, the presidential office's deputy spokesperson Lee Jae-myung conveyed in a written briefing.
The two leaders strongly condemned North Korea's ballistic missile launch as a serious and grave provocation threatening peace and security not only on the Korean Peninsula but also in Northeast Asia and the international community, and agreed to cooperate to respond firmly to North Korea.
They also shared the recognition that North Korea's reckless provocations must stop and that a clear message must be conveyed to North Korea that provocations will have consequences.
To this end, they emphasized the importance of solid solidarity with the international community, including the United Nations Security Council, as well as trilateral security cooperation among South Korea, the United States, and Japan.
The two leaders agreed that South Korea and Japan are partners who must cooperate on various issues facing the international community, evaluated the positive momentum in bilateral relations including the meeting held during last month's UN General Assembly, and decided to continue related diplomatic efforts.
