Commitment to Completing a Happy Buk-gu Renaissance Enjoying a Safe and Dignified Life

Moon In, Mayor of Gwangju Buk-gu, expressed his reflections through a press release on the 100th day since his inauguration in the 8th local government.

Immediately after the local elections in June, Mayor Moon held resident meetings in 28 neighborhoods to reflect living civil complaints in the 8th local government and listened to difficulties, continuing on-site activities tirelessly to minimize disaster damage during the summer season.

Also, the ‘10-Minute Distance Living SOC Renaissance’ project, worth about 140 billion KRW, which had been focused on since the 7th local government, is bearing fruit.

Following the opening of Buk-gu Cultural Center, Happiness Harmony Center, and Jungheung Library in the 7th local government, from the start of the 8th local government, major living and cultural infrastructure projects such as the Credit Administration Complex Town, the nation’s first Bandabi Sports Center, Buk-gu Comprehensive Gymnasium, Usan Living Sports Center, and residential parking lots have been consecutively completed, with on-site activities underway to prepare efficient usage plans.

Mayor Moon stated, “We will take the voices from the field, which will guide Buk-gu administration, as nourishment and complete the Happy Buk-gu Renaissance of the 8th local government, where all residents can enjoy a safe and dignified life.”

He pointed out ‘stabilizing the people’s economy’ and ‘disaster response’ as the biggest current issues.

Mayor Moon emphasized, “The ongoing COVID-19 for over two years and the recent ‘4 Highs (Gogo) Era’?high inflation, high oil prices, high exchange rates, and high interest rates?are threatening the livelihoods of ordinary people, causing many to face difficulties. Securing residents’ safety from natural disasters due to the climate crisis is also urgent.”

Accordingly, Mayor Moon proposed alternatives such as strengthening the safety net for small business owners through the 8th local government’s first approval of ‘People’s Economy Recovery Win-Win Fund Creation’ and ‘Inclusive Finance for Self-Employed,’ and providing comprehensive support to small and medium enterprises by expanding the operation of the ‘Economic Comprehensive Support Center.’

He also said, “Since this is directly related to residents’ safety, we will speedily promote projects for three habitual flooding areas in the district included in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s five-year plan for excellent detention facilities (rainwater storage facilities), and gradually expand the target areas in the future.”

Furthermore, through collecting opinions from the resident jury, Mayor Moon plans to finalize 41 projects in six major areas?▲Together Economy ▲Inclusive Welfare ▲Green Safety ▲Resident Dignity ▲Living Culture ▲Future Industry?by the end of this month and practice future values that will not be shaken by any crisis with 430,000 Buk-gu residents.

Mayor Moon said, “If the four years of the 7th local government were a time to fill deficiencies, the four years of the 8th local government will be a time to repay all residents. Especially, we will do our best to create a Buk-gu that achieves definite change and development in residents’ lives through field-centered and communicative administration that upholds basics and principles.”
