The KCC Switzen Apartment School Establishment Promotion Committee held a meeting on the 4th to urge the establishment of a school, attended by Park Dong-sik, Mayor of Sacheon, local district city council members, and officials from the Provincial Office of Education.
This meeting was arranged at the request of the KCC Switzen Apartment School Establishment Promotion Committee after the Gyeongnam Provincial Office of Education changed its position that "the establishment of a school is delayed due to changes in surrounding conditions."
Superintendent Park Jong-hoon pledged during the local elections in June to establish a small-scale elementary school with fewer than 30 billion KRW for the residents of KCC Switzen Apartment.
On this day, the KCC Switzen School Establishment Promotion Committee proposed establishing a small-scale school (18 classes) with a budget under 30 billion KRW from the Provincial Office of Education, and then expanding the school as the number of students increases to accommodate them.
They emphasized that rather than waiting until all conditions for establishing a school are met, it is more realistic to establish the school now and gradually fulfill the requirements, urging the prompt establishment of the school.
Mayor Park expressed a strong intention to actively support the budget for the establishment of the KCC Switzen school and requested the education office to expedite the establishment.
He also promised to spare no administrative and financial support for the school establishment, including exploring various methods to alleviate students' commuting inconveniences.
On the other hand, the Gyeongnam Office of Education stated that it is difficult to establish a school at this time due to delays in the nearby apartment complex development projects around KCC Switzen Apartment.
They explained that their review was based on the premise that the surrounding apartment development progresses, and expressed a general intention to promote school establishment depending on the development trend of the apartment complexes.
