On the 3rd, the Criminal Division 1 of the Western Branch of the Busan District Court (Chief Judge Lee Jinhyuk) announced that it sentenced A, a man in his 20s, to 1 year and 6 months in prison for charges including obstruction of official duties causing injury.
In March, A rode about 60 meters in Buk-gu, Busan, with traffic officer B, who was trying to stop him, hanging on the motorcycle.
At the time, Officer B caught A riding without a helmet and without registration, blocked the motorcycle from the roadside, held the handlebars, and attempted to enforce the stop.
In response, A suddenly accelerated the motorcycle and started to flee, dragging B who was hanging on for about 60 meters.
B sustained serious injuries requiring four weeks of treatment.
The court said, "The incident occurred in broad daylight with heavy traffic, which could have led to a major accident," and added, "Several drivers who witnessed A’s crime were so shocked that they got out of their cars, showing how dangerous it was."
