Haenam County Council Launches Special Committee for Hosting National Maritime and Fisheries Museum
Following the Adoption of the Request for Early Attraction, On-Site Inspection of Solaside
[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] On the 27th, the Haenam County Council adopted a resolution urging the hosting of the National Maritime Fisheries Museum in Haenam County at the 2nd plenary session of the 1st regular meeting of the 323rd session. Following this, on September 28th, members of the Special Committee for Hosting the National Maritime Fisheries Museum visited the planned site within Solar City, developed by Seonamhaean Corporate City Development Co., Ltd., located in Sanim-myeon, Haenam County, and listened to the difficulties faced.
Currently, the National Maritime Fisheries Museum, which is fiercely competing for hosting among seven cities and counties in Jeollanam-do, is a fully government-funded project. After on-site evaluations, the results of the Jeollanam-do site evaluation are scheduled to be announced on the 17th of next month. During this site visit, opinions on hosting were exchanged and mutual cooperation matters were discussed.
A representative of the corporate city stated, “According to the scoring simulation results, there are evaluation items where Haenam County is at an absolute disadvantage, making the current situation like playing a game on a tilted field. However, in other evaluation items such as accessibility and linkage with tourist attractions, we can perform well. We will do our best to prepare together with Haenam County and the Haenam County Council.”
Park Sang-jeong, Vice Chairman of the Haenam County Council, said, “We know that Haenam County currently has a strong will to host and that the corporate city is also doing its best to secure the hosting. Let’s establish a good strategy together and actively respond to the on-site evaluation.”
Meanwhile, the ‘National Maritime Fisheries Museum’ is planned to be built by 2026 with a total project cost of 124.5 billion KRW (100% government-funded). Applications must be submitted to Jeollanam-do by the 7th of next month, followed by on-site evaluations, and then a final application will be made to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. Within the province, seven cities and counties including Haenam County, Yeosu City, Wando County, Sinan County, Gangjin County, Boseong County, and Goheung County have entered the competition to host.
