[Asia Economy Reporter Han Yeju] Volvo Group Korea has unveiled the 100% pure electric excavator for the first time in the Asian market in Korea.
On the 28th, Volvo Group Korea held a media event at Crest 72 in Jangchung-dong and introduced the 2.5-ton class 100% electric excavator 'ECR25'.
At the event, Andrew Knight, CEO of Volvo Group Korea, and Lim Jae-tak, Vice President of Domestic Sales and Service at Volvo Construction Equipment, along with Thomas Kuta, Vice Chairman of Volvo Construction Equipment Asia who visited Korea, participated to introduce the electric excavator ECR25 and explain Volvo Construction Equipment's electrification vision.
The ECR25 electric excavator is one of Volvo Construction Equipment's core strategic models to respond to the growing interest and demand for sustainable construction machinery solutions. It replaces the conventional internal combustion engine with a lithium-ion electric battery and hydraulic system, achieving the same operational performance as diesel equipment of the same class. With the advantages of zero emissions and low noise, the electric excavator features a compact radius design that allows comfortable operation even in narrow spaces, making it highly useful in urban or densely populated environments.
Lim Jae-tak, Vice President of Domestic Sales and Service at Volvo Construction Equipment, explained, "The ECR25 electric excavator is a strategic model launched by actively reflecting the trends and customer needs of the domestic construction machinery market, where there is high interest in new technologies and innovative work performance, and charging infrastructure is easy to establish."
Using a total of three batteries, it provides a battery capacity of 20kWh and can operate for 4 hours on a single charge. When using the standard charger provided with the equipment, it takes 6 hours for a full charge, and with the optional fast charger, 80% charge is possible in just 1 hour.
Work convenience has also been improved to match the next-generation electric excavator. Through the Electric Machine Management Application (EMMA), real-time monitoring is possible, and customers can receive information such as charging status, battery level, and equipment location on their mobile devices.
Volvo Group Korea completed production preparations by establishing the first electric excavator mass production line at the Changwon plant in April this year. The company plans to expand the electric drive equipment production line to include large hydrogen-based electric excavators in the future.
