The ‘Busan International Medical Tourism Convention’ is an international medical and tourism exhibition event co-hosted by the city and Busan Ilbo, and organized by the Busan Medical Industry Council, marking its 14th edition this year.
This year, with the phased recovery of daily life from COVID-19, the event will feature offline exhibitions and business consultations, as well as simultaneous online live broadcasts of the opening ceremony and academic events.
The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea Tourism Organization, Korea Health Industry Development Institute, Busan Economic Promotion Agency, Busan Tourism Organization, KBS Busan, Busan MBC, and associations of hospitals, medical doctors, dentists, oriental medicine doctors, and pharmacists in Busan.
The opening ceremony, attended by domestic and international medical tourism stakeholders, will be held at 11 a.m. on the 30th at Exhibition Hall 1 of BEXCO.
The opening ceremony will include a performance featuring Longboarder and Busan City’s communication character ‘Bugi’, as well as an award ceremony for medical volunteer services overcoming COVID-19.
Main events of this convention include ▲exhibition events ▲international symposium and seminars ▲health lectures by renowned medical experts ▲business consultations with overseas buyers.
▲The exhibition events will be operated in four exhibition halls: Medical Tourism Hall, Medical Experience Hall, Medical Industry Hall, and Tourism Products Hall, with about 200 booths from 100 companies across 13 countries.
Visitors to the exhibition can experience various medical tests presented by medical institutions, such as capillary health tests, blood pressure and diabetes measurements.
▲The international academic event is the Busan Medical Tourism Activation International Symposium, featuring presentations and discussions by domestic medical institutions and experts from the U.S. and Germany. ▲The Busan Medical Experts’ Special Lectures will cover topics such as colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and stomach cancer, with leading specialists delivering lectures to highlight the excellence of Busan’s medical services.
▲In the overseas buyer business consultation, both online and offline, regional medical institutions will meet overseas buyers through a pre-matching system. Genuine buyers from countries such as Vietnam, Mongolia, and the UAE will be invited, raising expectations for tangible outcomes.
Additionally, various events such as human skeleton alignment, dementia triathlon, and marshmallow hospital building, along with generous prize giveaways, are prepared.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “The medical tourism industry is a future growth engine that can utilize all the capabilities Busan possesses,” adding, “With the phased recovery of daily life underway, interest and demand for medical tourism are increasing, and I hope this event will serve as an opportunity for Busan to leap forward as a global medical tourism city.”
