Pohang City Expands Public Data Access... Strengthening Efforts to Build a Data-Driven City Ecosystem
Demand Survey Conducted for User-Centered Customized Public Data Focused Opening
Expecting Increased Data Utilization through Inter-Agency Data Sharing Cooperation and Public-Private Collaboration
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City is conducting a data awareness and public data demand survey to focus on opening public data centered on the needs of citizens.
This survey is conducted to activate the use of public data in the private sector by changing citizens' awareness of public data, enhancing accessibility, and providing customized data for users. Any citizen can participate in the data demand survey through the Pohang City website until October 31.
'Public data' refers to public information created by public institutions, which is opened to the public through the 'Public Data Portal' so that everyone can share the data. The scope of data opening is expanding annually through the designation of standard data, and data is continuously discovered as needed.
Through this demand survey, it is expected that new customized public data opening centered on citizens as data users, along with increased awareness of public data and consequent increased data utilization, will lead to active generation of additional data demand.
The data survey will identify data user groups and reflect this in the establishment of data policies to activate data utilization across all groups.
To identify necessary data among institutions for data-driven administration, a joint data demand survey among local governments nationwide will be conducted, and a cooperative system for data linkage between institutions will be established to create a collaborative foundation for data utilization.
Opinions collected from citizens' open demand and inter-institutional joint data utilization surveys will be used to expand opening through new public data discovery and establish a data quality management system, aiming to improve service quality. It will also be utilized in data-driven projects such as constructing a data dam through continuous data accumulation on the big data integrated platform being built by Pohang City.

Mayor Kangdeok Lee said, "We conducted this demand survey to gradually open the public data held by Pohang City and supply the data desired by citizens and companies first. We will strive to expand the volume of data for an ecosystem as a data-leading city and actively respond to rapidly changing citizen data demands so that public data can create a virtuous cycle of new value, providing more administrative services and convenience to citizens."
