[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] At around 11:03 AM on the 26th, a 4-ton vessel operating near Jisimdo Island, Ilmun-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongnam, sank, prompting the Coast Guard to urgently carry out rescue operations.
According to Changwon Coast Guard Station, the vessel collided with an underwater floating object presumed to be a piece of wood while departing from Jisepo Port to Jisimdo Island around 10 AM that day.
The captain confirmed that the engine room and fish hold were flooded while navigating near Jisimdo Island and requested rescue from the Coast Guard substation.
Changwon Coast Guard urged the passengers to wear life jackets and dispatched patrol vessels and the Jangseungpo Substation coastal rescue boat to the scene for rescue operations.
Upon arrival, the Coast Guard boarded the flooded vessel, rescued the passengers, and carried out emergency dewatering using pumps.
After completing the dewatering, the vessel was moved to Geoje Jisepo Seonchang Port. Seeing a hole about 20 cm in the bow, the Jangseungpo Substation rescue team was deployed to seal the breach underwater to prevent marine pollution and further flooding damage.
