Economic Independence? Support for Social Adaptation
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyun] S-OIL donated scholarships to support the academic studies and independence of youth from orphanages.
On the 27th, S-OIL held the ‘2022 S-OIL Dream Scholarship’ award ceremony at its headquarters in Mapo-gu, Seoul, in collaboration with the Korea Child Welfare Association, and awarded scholarships and a donation of 280 million KRW in total, including support funds for the Seondeokwon girls' orphanage facility, to 115 students majoring in science and engineering at junior colleges and high schools.
S-OIL provided scholarships of 2.5 million KRW each to 40 junior college students from orphanages majoring in science and engineering fields such as chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical/electronic engineering. The support will continue until graduation to help students focus steadily on their studies.
For 75 high school students preparing for employment, S-OIL also provided 1.5 million KRW each for technical education expenses to help acquire specialized skills or certifications in areas such as heavy equipment, computers, beauty, and baking. Since 2016, S-OIL has supported a total of 833 students with Dream Scholarships amounting to 1.85 billion KRW.
The S-OIL Dream Scholarship is not a simple one-time donation but aims to provide learning and educational opportunities to promote the emotional stability of youth in child welfare facilities and help them grow into healthy members of society.
