What Happened at Changgyeonggung Palace in 1752?
From the 1st to the 5th of next month, the performance 'Changgyeonggung, 1752'
Highlights the joys and sorrows of the royal family, including Crown Prince Yeso's appointment and King Jeongjo's birth
Royal family stories from over 300 years ago are reenacted as a play at Changgyeonggung Palace. The Cultural Heritage Administration's Palace and Royal Tombs Division and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation announced on the 26th that 'Changgyeonggung, 1752' will be held from the 1st to the 5th of next month. The performance highlights the joys and sorrows of the royal family in 1752 (the 28th year of King Yeongjo's reign), including Yeongjo's daily life, the funeral rites of Uisose-son, Yeongjo's grandson and elder brother of King Jeongjo, the restoration and flood control projects of Cheonggyecheon Stream, and the birth of King Jeongjo. Uisose-son was appointed crown prince but died prematurely at the age of three.
The performance takes place sequentially with time intervals in the Tongmyeongjeon, Gyeongchunjeon, and Hwanghwanjeon areas within Changgyeonggung Palace. After the performance, visitors can follow the 'Royal Family's Walk' procession, strolling around the area accompanied by the king and queen of the Joseon Dynasty. Before the show, attendees receive a hopae (identification tag) and can participate in the performance as Joseon subjects.

'Changgyeonggung, 1752' can be viewed by making an online reservation in advance or applying on-site. Advance reservations open on the 27th at 2 p.m. on Interpark on a first-come, first-served basis. From the 1st to the 3rd of next month, 50 people per session can apply, and from the 4th to the 5th, up to 100 people per session. A representative from the Palace and Royal Tombs Division stated, "Those who make advance reservations can enter Changgyeonggung Palace free of charge on the day of the performance."
