Putin's 'Military Conscription Order' Prompts G7 Foreign Ministers to "Pursue Additional Sanctions Against Russia"
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) have agreed to expand comprehensive support for Ukraine.
Germany, the G7 chair country (United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Canada), issued a statement from German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on the 22nd (local time) via the Foreign Ministry website, reporting the results of the 77th United Nations General Assembly G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting held the previous day in New York, USA.
According to the statement, the G7 foreign ministers unanimously agreed to continue providing Ukraine with as much economic, financial, humanitarian, military, and diplomatic support as needed for Ukraine's freedom, peace, reconstruction, and economic development.
They also agreed to cooperate in responding to global food and energy security and to participate in the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) efforts to ensure the safety of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, where concerns about accidents have increased due to continuous shelling.
This statement was released after Russia, recently pushed onto the defensive in the Ukraine war, abruptly issued a military mobilization order.
The G7 expressed concern over Russia's announcement of the military mobilization order and its suggestion of possible nuclear use, stating that it will continue to apply economic and political pressure on Russia while pursuing additional "targeted sanctions."
They also labeled Russia's announcement to hold referendums in the occupied territories of Ukraine as "fake referendums," stating that territorial annexation would be a serious violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and the UN Charter.
The ministers condemned the discovery of approximately 450 mass graves in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Izium, which had been occupied by Russia.
The G7 foreign ministers emphasized that the most important thing to hold Russia accountable is to promptly and thoroughly preserve on-site evidence and pledged support for this effort.
