Deposit Insurance Corporation Holds 2022 Kkum Namu Scholarship Award Ceremony
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunju Lee] On the 22nd, the Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC) held the '2022 KDIC Dream Tree Scholarship Award Ceremony' at the KDIC building in Jung-gu, Seoul.
Since 2005, KDIC has provided a total of 257.4 million KRW in scholarships to 270 high school students from vulnerable households over 17 sessions until last year.
KDIC explained that, in collaboration with the Community Chest of Korea and the Korea School Social Workers Association, it selected 20 students (including those with excellent academic performance and special talents in arts and sports) who are studying diligently despite difficult family circumstances (households with median income below 80%). Additionally, using funds raised through voluntary donations from its executives and employees, KDIC awarded a total of 20 million KRW in Dream Tree Scholarships (1 million KRW per person).

Park Sang-jin, a director of KDIC who attended the scholarship award ceremony, said, "We hope the Dream Tree Scholarship will be a beacon of hope for students striving for their dreams despite difficult circumstances," and added, "Going forward, KDIC will continue to fulfill its social responsibilities as a public institution by supporting vulnerable students alongside its core duties such as financial stability and depositor protection."
