Haenam-gun Secures 93.1 Billion Won for Disaster Prevention Projects, Signaling a Green Light for Disaster Safety
New Projects Totaling 68.1 Billion KRW Including 45.6 Billion KRW for Flood and Wind Damage Comprehensive Maintenance
Construction Accelerates with 35 Billion KRW Invested in Bukil Unjeon and Haenam Bokpyeong Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance Projects
[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jeonnam Haenam-gun announced that it has secured a total of 68.1 billion KRW in new project funds from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's '2023 Disaster Prevention Project.'
This project includes 45.6 billion KRW for the Haenam-gun Comprehensive Flood Damage Living Zone Improvement Project, 22 billion KRW for the Hyeonsan Gohyeon Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance Project, and 500 million KRW for the Haenam-gun Smart Measurement Management System Construction Project.
Additionally, for ongoing projects such as Bukil Unjeon (total project cost 10 billion KRW) and Haenam Bokpyeong (total project cost 15 billion KRW) districts, 4.5 billion KRW in 2023 project funds have been secured, signaling a positive outlook for natural disaster risk improvement projects.
The Comprehensive Flood Damage Living Zone Improvement Project in the Hwasan district, which has been suffering from frequent flooding of farmland during the rainy season, will invest a total of 45.6 billion KRW, including 22.8 billion KRW in national funds, by 2027 to carry out maintenance on one local river, small rivers, stormwater drainage pipes, and coastal areas.
For the Gohyeon district in Hyeonsan-myeon, where residents have suffered damage due to river flooding caused by heavy rain, 22 billion KRW will be invested to reorganize the river and reconstruct five bridges.
Furthermore, a smart measurement management system has been established in seven small rivers within the jurisdiction, including Jangchuncheon and Mamyung 1cheon, enabling rapid evacuation guidance for residents living near small rivers during floods.
The county plans to invest a total of 93.1 billion KRW, including this new project, to maintain 24 km of rivers by 2028, expecting disaster prevention effects for 648.38 hectares of housing and farmland.
This large-scale national fund acquisition was the result of County Governor Myeong Hyeon-gwan and county officials repeatedly visiting central government departments to explain the necessity of natural disaster risk improvement and to persuade the urgency of project implementation.
Along with this, as the frequency of natural disasters has increased recently due to abnormal climate conditions, raising concerns about human and property damage, proactive natural disaster prevention projects are being actively promoted.
Myeong Hyeon-gwan, Haenam County Governor, said, "I expect that securing this large-scale project fund will play a significant role in making Haenam safe from disasters," and added, "We will continue to discover regional disaster prevention projects and strive to have them selected for central government projects."
