[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hyundai Motor Company is taking steps to nurture future automotive technology talent and expand the electric vehicle market in Singapore.
On the 22nd, Hyundai Motor announced that on the 20th, it signed a tripartite industry-academia cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Singapore's ITE (Institute of Technical Education) and Hyundai Motor Singapore dealership Komoco.
ITE is a university under the Singapore Ministry of Education. This MOU targets students of the ITE Automotive Engineering Department, the only automotive department in Singapore.
Through this MOU, the "Global Technology Capability Enhancement Program" will be launched starting next year. Over five years, up to 10 outstanding students selected annually through this program will complete a two-month training course in Korea and then work at Hyundai Motor's Komoco dealership in Singapore.
The training course in Korea consists of automotive theory education focused on Hyundai Motor's new technologies and on-site practical training at Hyundai Motor's directly operated service centers. To this end, curriculum development utilizing domestic service center infrastructure will be promoted based on collaboration with the field teams supporting Hyundai Motor's global service network.
The MOU signing ceremony was held at the electric vehicle (EV) dedicated workshop established inside the Komoco dealership by Hyundai Motor. After the ceremony, an introduction to the EV dedicated workshop was provided, and demonstrations of high-voltage battery diagnosis and repair were conducted.
Hyundai Motor's EV dedicated workshop offers repair and minor maintenance services specialized for electric vehicle customers only. It operates a one-on-one customer dedicated service staff and has introduced digital processes enabling 24-hour unmanned vehicle drop-off and pick-up.
Hyundai Motor plans to operate the EV workshop not merely as a space for repairs but as a "mobility life hub" providing differentiated customer experiences. Hyundai Motor customers can use the EV charging area, lounge, and cafeteria even without undergoing repair work.
Hyundai Motor aims to firmly establish itself as a global brand contributing to the local community by actively fostering future automotive maintenance technology talent in Singapore through this MOU.
