POSCO Engineering & Construction Accelerates Talent Development for New Businesses Including Hydrogen and Offshore Wind Power
[Asia Economy Reporter Tae-min Ryu] POSCO Engineering & Construction announced on the 22nd that it will collaborate with external specialized institutions to nurture experts in future growth sectors such as hydrogen, offshore wind power, and eco-friendly architecture.
On the same day, POSCO Engineering & Construction signed a mutual Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, the Korea New and Renewable Energy Association, Jeju National University, and the Korea Society of Green Building and Environmental Equipment to foster talent for future new businesses. Through this agreement, POSCO Engineering & Construction plans to jointly cultivate experts in the hydrogen industry EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) field with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, in the offshore wind power sector with the Korea New and Renewable Energy Association and Jeju National University, and in eco-friendly architecture such as zero-energy buildings with the Korea Society of Green Building and Environmental Equipment.
Accordingly, by 2024, approximately 400 employees currently working in similar fields of existing new growth businesses will be sequentially selected to undergo upskilling (education for acquiring new skills related to their professional fields) based on their current job experience, while simultaneously receiving reskilling (education for acquiring new skills to take on roles in different fields within the company) in new growth business areas such as hydrogen, offshore wind power, and eco-friendly architecture.
Han Sung-hee, CEO of POSCO Engineering & Construction, said, "This agreement is essential to secure the company’s new growth engines and ultimately realize the POSCO Group’s mid- to long-term strategy to achieve carbon neutrality. We will effectively promote future technology-driven businesses with the help of top specialized institutions and various experts in each field."

Meanwhile, POSCO Engineering & Construction plans to carry out various new businesses such as securing the hydrogen business value chain, developing offshore wind power complexes, and green remodeling applying eco-friendly building technologies in accordance with the POSCO Group’s environmental policies.
