China's 5G Base Stations Reach Over 2.1 Million... "Heading to Rural Areas"
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Kim Hyunjung] The number of 5th generation mobile communication (5G) base stations in China has surged, exceeding 2 million.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China on the 22nd, as of the end of August, the number of 5G base stations opened and operating within China reached 2,102,000. Of these, 677,000 were newly constructed this year alone.
This accounts for 19.8% of the total local mobile communication base stations, an increase of 5.5 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
By region, 1,017,000 base stations were concentrated in the eastern region. The central, western, and northeastern regions have 444,000, 511,000, and 130,000 base stations respectively.

During the same period, the number of mobile Internet of Things (IoT) connections in China reached 1.698 billion. The People's Daily reported that "the formation of multiple network constructions and the popularization to rural areas have been established," adding that "mobile IoT is deeply connected to various fields of economic and social development."
