Prosecutors Arrest and Investigate Close Associate of Former Gyeonggi Deputy Governor Ewhayeong on Bribery Suspicion
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] It has been confirmed that the prosecution has arrested and is investigating an aide of Lee Hwa-young, the CEO of Kintex and former Deputy Governor for Peace of Gyeonggi Province, who is suspected of receiving bribes from Ssangbangwool Group.
According to authorities on the 21st, the Criminal Division 6 of Suwon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Young-nam) obtained an arrest warrant and arrested aide A of CEO Lee for investigation. CEO Lee served as the Deputy Governor for Peace of Gyeonggi Province from August 2018 to January 2020, and before taking office as Deputy Governor for Peace, he served as an outside director of Ssangbangwool for over a year until June 2018. During this period, A is known to have worked at Ssangbangwool alongside CEO Lee.
CEO Lee is suspected of receiving approximately 100 million KRW in benefits, including the use of corporate credit cards, from Ssangbangwool during his tenure as Deputy Governor. A is also reportedly under investigation for bribery charges.

Earlier, the prosecution summoned CEO Lee on the 18th for questioning regarding the allegations. The prosecution is also investigating Ssangbangwool for bribery charges. On the 7th, the prosecution conducted searches and seizures at CEO Lee’s residence, Kintex, Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office, and the Asia-Pacific Peace Exchange Association.
