Hwasun-gun and Cambodia Sign MOU for Introduction of Foreign Seasonal Workers

[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Hwasun County in Jeonnam is introducing foreign seasonal workers to address the shortage of labor in rural areas.

The county announced on the 21st that it signed an agreement with the Cambodian Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training for the introduction of foreign seasonal workers at a meeting room in the county office.

Accordingly, Hwasun County plans to introduce seasonal workers starting from the second half of this year.

The signing ceremony was attended by Park Cheol-won, Deputy Governor of Hwasun, Mr. Theang Seangveng, Director of the Cambodian Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, and Mr. Touy Darit, Labor Attach? of the Cambodian Embassy in Korea.

The county visited Cambodia from the 31st of last month to the 4th of this month to discuss the introduction of seasonal workers with the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, and successfully concluded the agreement through several consultations with the Cambodian Embassy in Korea.

The foreign seasonal worker program is a system that allows the legal employment of foreigners for a short period (5 months) to solve labor shortages in farming and fishing villages. The county was allocated 117 workers from the Ministry of Justice for the second half of this year.

Deputy Governor Park Cheol-won said, “As a result of efforts to solve the shortage of rural labor, we have signed a very meaningful agreement,” and added, “We will strive to promote exchanges and cooperation not only in seasonal worker exchanges but also in various fields such as culture and tourism.”

Mr. Theang Seangveng, Director of the Cambodian Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, said, “We are pleased to sign the MOU for seasonal workers with Hwasun County,” and added, “We will thoroughly provide pre-education on unauthorized departure and working conditions for the personnel sent from Cambodia and do our best to send only diligent workers.”
