[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Asia Cement announced on the 20th that it has been commercially producing 'High-Weight Floor Mortar' with impact sound insulation performance since last month.
The 'High-Weight Floor Mortar,' jointly developed by Asia Cement and Samsung C&T, was developed through two years of demonstration research and actual apartment site testing. Through joint research with Samsung C&T's Interfloor Noise Research Institute, the product's performance was evaluated at the apartment-type testing facility of the Raemian Goyoan (安) LAB, a complex research facility for interfloor noise, and durability was reviewed for several months after installing heating pipes in actual apartments.
The core technology is to minimize vibration caused by impact by increasing the density of the mortar to reduce apartment floor impact noise. However, since the high-weight floor mortar uses heavy aggregates, its weight per unit volume increases by more than 20% compared to conventional floor mortars using general aggregates. Therefore, heavy aggregates settling downward can cause clogging in the pumping pump, and increased viscosity makes it difficult to maintain homogeneous quality, potentially leading to cracks after pouring.
To solve these problems, Asia Cement developed a mix design method that enhances pumpability and resistance to material segregation during the product development stage. In collaboration with the research team of Professor Kwon Seung-hee from Myongji University's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, a top domestic expert in concrete pumping, actual pumping tests were conducted, enabling the high-weight floor mortar to be pumped up to super high-rise levels.
In April, a patent was also registered (No. 10-2388141) for the 'Mortar Mix Technology for Floors by Strength Grade to Reduce Interfloor Noise.' The technology classifies grades according to the noise reduction performance of dry mortar, verifies the constituent materials and mix design (mix amount and ratio) methods that satisfy performance through test specimens, and secures various dry mortar mix technologies for noise reduction in multi-family housing.
Asia Cement recently supplied the latest mobile silos to construction sites to improve the quality of functional products such as high-weight floor mortar. These silos feature a system that controls the product discharge amount consistently to improve the workability and quality of dry mortar at construction sites. Additionally, foldable handrails were installed on the upper parts of the mobile silos to ensure worker safety.

An Asia Cement official said, "The high-weight floor mortar for reducing interfloor noise can be constructed using dry mortar pouring equipment commonly used at construction sites, so it is expected to be utilized as an effective noise reduction floor material in the future." He added, "In addition, a floor mortar product for cushioning material upper layers, related to noise reduction, has also been released and is receiving positive responses in the market."
