Jangseong-gun Successfully Concludes 'Gender Equality Week Commemorative Event'
[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do recently announced on the 20th that it successfully concluded the ‘2022 Gender Equality Week Commemoration Event’ held at the small theater of Jangseong-gun Culture and Arts Center, attended by about 200 people including female leaders, members, and residents.
Hosted by Jangseong-gun and organized by the Jangseong-gun Women’s Association Council, this event was held under the theme ‘A Happy Journey Where Everyone is Respected! Together with Jangseong-gun’ to convey the true meaning of gender equality and to raise nationwide interest in practicing gender equality.
The event proceeded with a Samulnori performance by children from Sangmu Daycare Center, followed by awards for meritorious persons, screening of activity videos by organizations, performances, and a special lecture.
In particular, at this event, three exemplary couples who have practiced gender equality for the first time in Jangseong-gun were awarded as meritorious persons, and a ‘Dad Childcare Photo Contest’ was held to spread a gender-equal family culture, receiving great response.
Jang Young-ae, president of the Jangseong-gun Women’s Association Council, said, “The start of gender equality is to break away from gender stereotypes and recognize differences and diversity rather than discrimination,” adding, “We will actively cooperate with women’s organizations in various fields to break down the invisible barriers between men and women that still exist.”
Kim Han-jong, the county governor, said, “I hope this event will be an opportunity for a social culture where women are happy and safe to take root in Jangseong,” and added, “We will do our best to establish a culture of gender equality based on understanding and empathy to create a society where women can work well and, furthermore, a happy Jangseong-gun where all residents are respected.”
