Public Hearing on 'Network Usage Fees' to Be Held... 'Network Free-Riding Law' Expected to Accelerate
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Communications Committee will hold its first public hearing on the morning of the 20th on the topic of 'Network Usage Fees,' one of the key issues in the information and communication technology (ICT) industry.
Currently, seven bills related to the controversy over network usage fees have been proposed in the National Assembly.

At the public hearing, the telecommunications industry, as internet service providers (ISPs), and content providers (CPs) are expected to confront each other over establishing principles regarding the burden of network installation and usage. Lawsuits related to 'network usage fees' are already underway in the industry. ISP SK Broadband has been engaged in a civil lawsuit with CP Netflix since April 2020.
