Gyeonggi-do, Additional Applications Accepted for Student Loan Interest Support
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will start accepting applications for additional support for college student loan interest from the 20th. This measure was taken due to the occurrence of applicants who failed to complete the final submission because of confusion caused by changes in the application method.
The province plans to accept applications through the next-generation reception system "Gyeonggi Minwon 24" from the second half of the year, instead of the application reception center at the provincial office used in the first half of this year.
The loan interest support targets include currently enrolled university and graduate students, including those on leave of absence, as well as unemployed graduates. Either the applicant or one of their direct ascendants must have been registered as a resident in Gyeonggi Province for more than one year. Graduates must have graduated within 10 years for university graduates and within 4 years for graduate school graduates.
Applications can be submitted by visiting the Gyeonggi Minwon 24 website. Applications can also be made via mobile devices such as smartphones.
The announcement of results and interest payments for the second half of this year are scheduled for December.
If selected as a beneficiary, Gyeonggi Province will pay the interest accrued in the first half of this year (January to June) on tuition and living expenses loans borrowed from the Korea Student Aid Foundation since the second semester of 2010. Payments will be made by deducting from the principal and interest of the loan account.
