[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will open to the public by the end of this year the cultural and natural heritage sites photographed during the field survey for the joint North-South registration of the Korean Peninsula Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 19th that it will hold a traveling photo exhibition titled "Remembering the Past and Hoping for the Future" jointly with the Cultural Heritage Administration and Gangwon Province at ▲Paju Imjingak Observatory (September 21 to October 7) ▲Yeoncheon Jeongok Prehistoric Museum (October 12 to 30) ▲Gangwon Yanggu Modern History Museum (November 4 to 27) ▲Gangwon Goseong DMZ Museum (December 1 to 31).
The exhibition photos were taken during the DMZ field survey conducted from 2020 to 2021 by the "DMZ Field Survey Team," composed of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation Gyeonggi Cultural Heritage Research Institute, and Gangwon Cultural Heritage Research Institute.
Key photos include about 90 images themed on "War Heritage (Conflict and Peace)," "Cultural Heritage (History and Culture)," and "Natural Heritage (Nature and Ecology)," featuring Paleolithic artifacts from Daeseongdong Village in Paju, Hwaseolmori and Baengmagoji in Cheorwon. The exhibition is hosted by the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation Gyeonggi Cultural Heritage Research Institute and the Gangwon Cultural Heritage Research Institute.
A provincial official said, "This traveling photo exhibition was prepared to disclose the results of the DMZ field survey," adding, "We hope this exhibition will be an opportunity to reflect on the war heritage, cultural heritage, and natural heritage of the Korean Peninsula DMZ and to deeply engrave the World Heritage value of the Korean Peninsula DMZ in our hearts."
