[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A mother sloth and her baby, who were separated while escaping wildfires in Bolivia, South America, have been safely reunited.
According to the recent report by animal-focused media The Dodo, a large wildfire broke out in Bolivia, prompting the mother sloth to evacuate with her baby to a safe area in a nearby village.
However, during this process, the mother sloth became separated from her baby. It is presumed that the mother lost hold of her baby from the tree after being startled by neighborhood dogs at the time.
Fortunately, with the help of veterinarian Marco Greminger, the baby sloth was able to return to its mother's arms. After receiving a call that a baby sloth was alone in a nearby village, he headed to the scene and found the baby sloth on the ground. At that time, the mother sloth was reportedly searching for her baby on a tree about 91 meters away.
Sloths have poor eyesight and hearing and are not good at walking on the ground, which likely made it difficult for the mother to find her baby. Although it is unclear how long the mother and baby were separated, the media reported that every second must have felt extremely long for them.

Their reunion was fully captured in a video taken by Greminger and posted on Facebook. Greminger said, "The expression of the mother sloth, who had been immersed in sadness, changed to relief and joy the moment she met her baby." He added, "A mother's embrace is the most beautiful place in the world for a child," and "In all the space of the universe, a mother's heart is unique."
