Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters Conducts Experiment for Electric Vehicle Fire Response
On the 16th at Gyeongbuk Fire Academy, Life Rescue and Fire Suppression Training
Study on Fire Suppression Measures for the Rapid Increase in Electric Vehicle Accidents
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The Gyeongbuk Provincial Fire Headquarters conducted a fire suppression experiment simulating a real situation on the 16th at the multipurpose training tower lawn of the Gyeongbuk Fire School to prepare for the increasing number of electric vehicle accidents.
With the recent increase in the distribution rate of electric vehicles causing frequent accidents such as fires, fire fighters conducted rescue and fire suppression training on actual electric vehicles to improve fire suppression and efficient accident response for electric vehicle fires.
Electric vehicle accidents differ from those involving conventional vehicles as they are equipped with high-voltage (high-capacity) batteries, posing a constant risk of electric shock, making accessibility for firefighters very difficult.
Additionally, in case of fire, thermal runaway of the battery makes complete extinguishment difficult with traditional fire suppression methods, and so far, there has been no effective suppression method.
This experiment recreated an actual fire situation by inducing thermal runaway in a 39 kW capacity electric vehicle battery.
The adaptability performance of fire suppression equipment dedicated to electric vehicles was verified, and it will be utilized in future electric vehicle accident response methods.
