According to Seoul Foreign Exchange Brokerage, the won-dollar exchange rate opened at 1,399.0 won, up 5.3 won from the previous day's closing price.
This is the highest level since March 31, 2009 (1,422.0 won) based on the high price. It marks the third consecutive day of record highs.
The won-dollar exchange rate recorded 1,395.5 won on the 14th and 1,397.9 won on the 15th, continuously pushing the upper limit each day.
After the foreign exchange authorities verbally intervened the previous day, stating they are "closely monitoring with caution regarding possible market concentration," the rising trend in the exchange rate had somewhat paused but surged again today.
