View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] Following the resale of President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife's Chuseok gift sets on the secondhand market, the so-called 'Yoon Seok-yeol watch' is reportedly being traded on secondhand platforms at about five times its original cost.
The commemorative watch for President Yoon, which is not for sale and is known to have a manufacturing cost of around 40,000 to 50,000 KRW, is being sold for 200,000 to 300,000 KRW on the online secondhand trading platform Danggeun Market as of the 14th.
The listings appeared right after the Chuseok holiday. Some posts even offered both men's and women's watches together. There was no specific mention of the reason for selling, and most of the items had already been sold.
President Yoon's commemorative watch was first unveiled in May. President Yoon invited 20 'national hope representatives,' including actor Oh Young-soo from 'Squid Game,' to the Yongsan Presidential Office and gifted them the watches.
Last month, commemorative watches were distributed to members of the People Power Party. Each constituency office received 20 watches?10 men's and 10 women's?and each proportional representation office received 10 watches?5 men's and 5 women's. It is also reported that commemorative watches were given out at events hosted by the Presidential Office.
Meanwhile, President Yoon Seok-yeol's gifts were also traded on secondhand sites during last Chuseok. Sellers offering Chuseok gift sets at that time proposed prices about six times higher than the actual gift sets, citing reasons such as "not liking the food" or "hoping someone who needs it would use it."
