“Pulling Out All Teeth” ... Appeal Dismissed for Mother Habitually Abusing Her Young Daughters
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] A biological mother who was prosecuted for habitually abusing her young daughters by grabbing their hair and throwing them out of the house or locking them in a dark bathroom was sentenced to imprisonment in the first trial and appealed, but the appeal was dismissed.
According to the Ulsan District Court on the 13th, the Criminal Appeal Division 2 (Chief Judge Hwang Un-seo) dismissed the appeal of a woman in her 40s, Ms. A, who was charged with abusing her children.
In 2018, Ms. A grabbed the hair of her daughters, aged 7 and 4 at the time, and cursed at them before throwing them out of the house because they were fighting with each other.
In 2019, she locked her eldest daughter in a dark bathroom for 10 minutes for not listening and playing with friends, and made her younger daughter watch this.
In addition, Ms. A habitually abused her two daughters until March 2020, threatening the younger daughter by putting a tool near her mouth and saying, "I will pull out all your teeth."
Ms. A was prosecuted for habitual abuse, and the first trial court sentenced her to six months in prison with a two-year probation and ordered her to attend 40 hours of child abuse recidivism prevention lectures, stating that the methods and degree of abuse were not light and that she showed no remorse.
Ms. A appealed the first trial result, claiming that she only used somewhat harsh expressions in the process of disciplining because she could not control her anger, and denied any physical or emotional abuse.
