The World Turns Green with Hope... Busan City Launches the 'Green Light Organ Donation Campaign to Illuminate Life'
Campaign Period (9.12.~18.): Busan Landmarks Light Up in 'Green' Symbolizing Life Sharing
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City will conduct the "Green Light Organ Donation Campaign that Illuminates Life" under the theme "The World is Dyed in Green Hope" from September 12 to 18.
This campaign promotes the Life Sharing Week designated by the "Act on Organ Transplantation" (one week starting from the second Monday of September every year, September 12?18) and aims to raise awareness about organ and human tissue donation and to revitalize the culture of life sharing.
Since its inception in 2020, the campaign has been held annually with great public response, and this year marks the third campaign.
During the campaign period, landmarks in Busan such as Gwangandaegyo Bridge, Busan Harbor Bridge, Namhang Bridge, Busan Tower in Yongdusan Park, Busan Cinema Center, Nurimaru, Busan Citizens Park, and Busan City Hall will be illuminated in green light symbolizing life sharing after sunset.
Along with the green lighting on Gwangandaegyo Bridge, a media facade titled "Becoming Busan's Eternal Stars through Life Sharing" will be presented to commemorate ▲Son Hyunseung (born 1981), ▲Hwang Haeguk (born 1957), ▲Yoon Junghui (born 1975), ▲Kim Sangsook (born 1966), and ▲Choi Changhyuk (born 1992), citizens of Busan who practiced organ donation to reflect on the noble meaning of life sharing. The production is managed by the Busan Facilities Corporation, the managing agency.
This year’s campaign involves 81 institutions including local governments, public institutions, hospitals, and private companies in collaboration with the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency, illuminating major buildings nationwide with green light to convey the meaning of life sharing to the entire nation.
During the campaign, the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency will hold a "Green Light Photo Event."
To participate, take photos or videos of the time dyed in green hope, follow the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency on social media (SNS), and post publicly with hashtags #OrganDonation, #LifeSharingGreenLightCampaign, and #CheeringLifeSharing.
A total of 80 participants will be selected by lottery to receive small gifts.
Mayor Park Hyungjun said, "Life sharing through organ donation is not an end for someone but a new beginning that illuminates someone’s life," adding, "We expect the green light that will color the night sky through Busan’s landmarks to improve citizens’ awareness of organ donation and deliver a message of hope."
