Harris: "Far-right MAGA Republicans Pose a Major Threat to the US"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris supported President Joe Biden's remarks that labeled the Trump supporters known as the 'far-right MAGA Republicans' as a threat to the nation.
On the 11th (local time), Vice President Harris appeared on NBC and responded to President Biden's recent criticism of the 'far-right MAGA Republicans' as 'quasi-fascists,' stating, "There are currently forces that clearly do not uphold democracy," and added, "The people want the President of the United States to raise awareness and speak out strongly on this issue."
However, Vice President Harris did not directly mention former President Donald Trump or the names of MAGA Republicans. MAGA stands for "Make America Great Again," which was former President Trump's campaign slogan.
Harris continued, "The American people know that those who deny the voting results of the majority are not helping the nation," and said, "This fact should not be treated as a political matter."
She emphasized, "We must recognize that there are attacks within our own country and take this seriously," adding, "We must respond to this together as Americans, not on a partisan level."
These remarks are interpreted as an appeal to support the Democratic Party by stating that to protect abortion rights and uphold democracy, the far-right Republicans who deny the 2020 election results and defend the January 6 Capitol riot must be judged.
Vice President Harris also criticized the federal Supreme Court, which officially overturned the 'Roe v. Wade' decision that recognized abortion rights at the federal level, calling it a "court of activists."
She said, "The nation is suffering as women's rights, recognized for about half a century, are being stripped away," and added, "The stature of the Supreme Court is deeply concerning."
She stressed that the Democratic Party must become a stable majority in the Senate to pass legislation guaranteeing abortion rights at the federal level.
Earlier, at a Democratic National Committee event held in Maryland the previous day, Vice President Harris said, "America is facing a great threat. This threat is a threat to freedom and democracy," and added, "We must speak the truth and not allow so-called leaders, extremists, to dismantle democracy."
