Second Half New Car Launches in Full Swing... Electric Vehicle Market Becoming a Battleground
A Total of About 10 Models Awaiting Release
Foreign Cars Also Expected to Launch in Large Numbers
[Asia Economy Reporter Seong Giho] Recently, as electric vehicle sales have surged significantly, interest in electric vehicles set to be released in the second half of this year is growing. Especially since new models with strong individual characteristics are expected to be launched, fierce competition is anticipated in the domestic market.
According to the industry on the 11th, more than 10 new electric vehicle models are scheduled to be released in the second half of this year.
Among them, the most anticipated vehicles are Hyundai’s first sedan-type pure electric vehicle ‘Ioniq 6’ and Kia’s high-performance electric vehicle ‘EV6 GT’.
The Ioniq 6 began pre-orders on the 22nd ahead of its launch next month, setting a record for the highest number of pre-orders for a domestic finished car model with 37,446 units on the first day. The long-range model with a large battery capacity is expected to receive 100% subsidies for all variants, signaling intense competition for deliveries.
Kia’s EV6 GT, launching next month, is the high-performance version of the EV6. The EV6 GT boasts a maximum output of 584 horsepower and a maximum torque of 740Nm. Notably, its zero to 100 km/h acceleration time is 3.5 seconds, the fastest zero-to-100 km/h time among all domestically released cars to date.
Mercedes-Benz will release the The New EQE. This model is based on the E-Class, which is the best-selling model for Mercedes-Benz. It is equipped with a 90.6kWh battery and can travel up to 654 km on a single charge according to European standards. Its zero-to-100 km/h acceleration time is 5.6 seconds, and it boasts a spacious wheelbase of 3120mm, larger than the E-Class’s 2940mm.
Audi and Volkswagen will simultaneously launch three mid-to-large electric vehicles in September. Audi recently released the brand’s first compact electric SUV, the 'Q4 e-tron 40' and the 'Q4 Sportback e-tron 40.'
Both the Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron are equipped with 82kWh lithium-ion batteries, enabling a driving range of 368 km for the Q4 e-tron and 357 km for the Q4 Sportback e-tron on a single charge based on combined standards.
Volkswagen Korea’s ID.4 will also be launched domestically on the 15th. The ID.4 is Volkswagen Korea’s first pure electric vehicle and has driven Volkswagen’s electric vehicle sales in the global market. Its driving range is 405 km at normal temperature and 288 km at low temperature on a single charge. Additionally, it is expected to be priced under 55 million KRW, qualifying for 100% electric vehicle subsidies.
BMW Korea will introduce the ‘i7’ based on the 7 Series. The i7 xDrive60 features two electric motors with a maximum output of 544 horsepower. Equipped with a 101.7kWh high-voltage battery, it can travel up to 625 km on a single charge.
