Efforts to Host the '2030 Busan Expo'... LG Energy Solution Likely to Visit Overseas Sites
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Ye-ju] Koo Kwang-mo, Chairman of LG Group, is set to embark on his first overseas business trip since the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to business circles on the 6th, Chairman Koo is expected to visit Poland in late September or early October to inspect the production facilities of LG Electronics and LG Energy Solution, and to engage in activities supporting the bid for the '2030 Busan World Expo.' This will be his first official overseas schedule in 3 years and 5 months since his business trip to the United States in April 2019.
Chairman Koo is reported to participate in the Busan Expo bid support as a special envoy of the President. Earlier, on the 1st, the Presidential Office mentioned granting special envoy status to the heads of the five major conglomerates with the intention of "joining all forces."
He also plans to visit the LG Energy Solution factory in Wrocław. If Chairman Koo visits the LG Energy Solution plant, it will be his first official visit to a major overseas business site since assuming the chairmanship.
Business circles predict that this overseas trip could mark an expansion of Chairman Koo's on-site overseas management. Until now, since his inauguration, Chairman Koo has delegated major decision-making to the CEOs of affiliates and has not taken a front-line role.

However, the dominant view in the industry is that, judging by the unusual developments in the global economy in the second half of this year, he will broaden his presence on overseas sites. With red flags raised across the economy due to supply chain instability caused by US-China conflicts, prolonged Russia-Ukraine crisis, global inflation, interest rate hikes, sharp currency fluctuations, economic slowdown, and strengthened protectionism, the need for proactive response has increased.
