According to Pohang City, Gyeongbuk, and the fire authorities on the 6th, a total of 8 residents who went to two apartment underground parking lots to move their cars in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, where heavy rain brought by Typhoon Hinnamnor No. 11 caused flooding in various parts of the city, have been reported missing, and search operations are underway.
At around 9:11 a.m. that day, reports were received one after another from residents of an apartment in Indeok-dong, Nam-gu, Pohang City, saying, "We have lost contact with family members who went to move their cars in the underground parking lot."
These residents are known to have gone missing after going out from around 6:30 a.m. that day upon hearing the management office's announcement to "move vehicles in the underground parking lot."
Pohang City and the fire authorities estimate that 7 residents of this apartment are missing.
The accident site is a one-story underground parking lot shared by Complex 1 and Complex 2. It remains flooded due to heavy rain until the afternoon, and the fire authorities are conducting drainage work to search for the missing persons.
The fire authorities said, "The parking lot is on the first basement floor and is currently filled with water. We need to drain some of the water before we can start rescue operations."
At around 9:46 a.m. that day, another missing person case was reported.
Family members reported that a man in his 60s who went out to move his car in the underground parking lot of an apartment in Ocheon-eup, Nam-gu, Pohang City, went missing, and firefighters began drainage work and search efforts.
As a result of this typhoon, one person each died in Pohang and Gyeongju, and a total of 8 people have been confirmed missing.
At around 7:57 a.m. that day, a woman in her 70s was swept away by a rapid current on a road in Ocheon-eup, Nam-gu, Pohang City, and was found dead about an hour later nearby.
According to the fire authorities, the woman was investigated to have been caught in the accident while walking to a shelter with her husband.
