Gwangju Seo-gu Prepares Measures for Household Waste Management During Chuseok Holiday

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Yi-gang) has prepared and is operating a waste disposal plan to minimize inconvenience to residents during the Chuseok holiday.

Seo-gu announced on the 5th that from the 9th to the 12th, it expects more waste than usual due to holiday food and gift packaging, and plans to focus administrative efforts on waste collection and disposal.

A comprehensive city cleanliness plan has also been established, and except for Chuseok day (the 10th), a total of 125 waste collection staff and 56 street environment managers will be deployed at all times to provide a pleasant environment for residents visiting Seo-gu during the holiday period.

In addition, to reduce waste, a campaign and crackdown on reducing food waste and excessive packaging in preparation for the Chuseok holiday, as well as a patrol team to crack down on illegal roadside dumping, have been organized.

Thorough cleaning will also be conducted in vulnerable areas for illegal dumping such as Maewol-dong and Sangmu District, striving to enhance the image of Seo-gu as the center of Gwangju.

A Seo-gu official said, “We will make every effort to create a clean environment by maintaining an emergency situation management system and carrying out environmental maintenance so that residents can have a happy Chuseok holiday,” and added, “During the holiday, we ask for active cooperation in reducing the use of disposable products as much as possible, separating recyclables, and reducing food waste.”
