Gyeonggi-do Elevates Typhoon Hinnamnor Alert from Emergency Level 1 to Level 2
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has raised the emergency level from Level 1 to Level 2 in response to the northward approach of Typhoon Hinnamnor, the 11th typhoon.
The Gyeonggi Province Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters announced that due to concerns about typhoon damage including heavy rain expected across the province on the 5th and 6th, the emergency level was elevated from Level 1 to Level 2 as of 8 a.m. on the 5th.
The upgrade to Emergency Level 2 was made in response to heavy rain warnings issued at 2 a.m. on the 5th for Paju City, Yeoncheon County, and Gimpo City, and heavy rain advisory warnings for the remaining 28 cities and counties, with significant rainfall expected throughout Gyeonggi Province, aiming for proactive measures.
With the elevation to Level 2, the provincial Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters will have the Director of the Safety Management Office serve as the controller to manage the heavy rain situation.
Currently, about 535 employees from Gyeonggi Province and its cities and counties have begun emergency duty. They are monitoring water level changes in real time at the Imjingang border area (Pilsunggyo Bridge and Gunnam Dam) and strengthening real-time situation communication between the province, cities/counties, and the Flood Control Office.
